Of Heart and Home, the new album from Sam Ness, tells the story of a decade-long journey.
Songs like the album’s single, Slotty Road, trace the feeling of leaving home and small town life
to travel and pursue something greater. The story continues with behind-the-scenes songs
about what it’s like to actually live on the road and the duality that sometimes accompanies that
life. Walmart Parking Twilight and Seasons show the stark contrast between the highs and lows
of a life of transience, and the difficulty of maintaining relationships, friendships, and mental
health. The album wraps up with a snapshot of Sam’s life now and the gratitude for every trial
along the path.
Come hear the stories behind the songs in an intimate, listening-room environment. It will be the
first and last time some of these songs will be shared live as Sam Ness closes this chapter of
his life and turns towards the future.

Nite Catechism, and has performed regularly on a national tour. Her line of bingo comedies has received rave reviews, including Bible Bingo: An Act of Charity in

Vicki grew up thinking that the nuns in her school were the product of a dangerous liaison between humans and angels. Later, when four nuns picked her up while she was waiting for a late night bus, she knew they were OK! Big hugs to her three great kids: Michael, David, and Catherine, all products of the Chicago Catholic school system!

Bizhiki presents a multidisciplinary performance aiming to educate, engage, and empower audiences around contemporary Ojibwe culture and lifeways.
The music of Bizhiki blends the ethereal vocals and visceral drumming of Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings (Bad River Ojibwe) and Joe Rainey Sr. (Red Lake Ojibwe) with contemporary soundscape multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer S. Carey. Connecting the songs is a lyrical narrative in which Jennings and Rainey share pieces of the Anishinaabe experience around identity, loss, and revitalization.
The talented performers’ diverse instrumentation – including powwow drums, percussion, drum programming, electric bass, synthesizers, guitars, piano, and vocals – expertly evoke the lived Anishinaabe experience in a unique format. Audiences are welcomed to gather in intimate community to connect experientially and emotionally to Ojibwe culture, all through the crisp lens of art and collaboration.

Wisconsin Brass Quintet: Regarded as one of the “superb brass ensembles in the USA” (Musicweb International) and praised for “remarkable musicianship and versatility” (International Trumpet Guild Journal), the widely acclaimed Wisconsin Brass Quintet (WBQ) has maintained a position at the forefront of brass chamber music since the group’s founding in 1972. In addition to its regular concert series on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Quintet performs extensively throughout the Midwest and nationally, including appearances in New York at Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Concert Hall. Its players have been members of the Seraph Brass, Empire Brass Quintet, and Meridian Arts Ensemble.
The WBQ’s commitment to commissioning and performing new music has attracted the attention of many renowned composers, including Verne Reynolds, Jan Bach, Karel Husa, John Harbison, and Daron Hagen. The Quintet’s premiere recordings of works by these composers and others can be found on the Summit, Mark, and Crystal record labels. American Record Guide reviewer Barry Kilpatrick writes: “The WBQ is a remarkable ensemble that plays with more reckless abandon, warmth, stylistic variety and interpretive interest than almost any quintet in memory.”
In demand for its engaging educational programs and master classes, the WBQ has presented clinics and residencies at such prestigious institutions as The Juilliard School, the Yale School of Music, the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. The WBQ has hosted several Brass Festivals, featuring concerts, master classes, and seminars held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Guest artists have included Stockholm Chamber Brass, Western Brass Quintet, Axiom Brass Quintet, tubist Øystein Baadsvik and composer Anthony Plog.
The Wisconsin Brass Quintet, with a graduate student on second trumpet, is one of three faculty chamber ensembles in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music. Deeply committed to the spirit of the Wisconsin Idea, the group travels widely to offer its concerts and educational services to students and the public in all corners of the state.
Current members of the Wisconsin Brass Quintet are Jean Laurenz and John Wagner, trumpets; Daniel Grabois, horn; Mark Hetzler, trombone; and Tom Curry, tuba.

Ticketing for events:
Most events at the River Arts Center are ticketed by the River Arts Center. Some events will use different ticketing systems or arrangements, including River Arts Inc events, and some dance studios. Events not ticketed by the River Arts Center will be noted above. For those events, the River Arts Center is unable to offer support, refunds, or transers of tickets.
A note about ticketing fees:
Most events will have a small ticketing fee on top of the ticket price. Ticketing services for small venues offer ticketing for free to us, and these fees cover their costs, and the costs of taking credit cards. Most ticket fees are less than $2.50 per ticket. While we understand that ticketing fees can be frustrating, unlike the big "master ticketing" company, these fees aren't used to make additional profit, they are what allows us to offer professional ticket services for our shows.
We partner with the company Ludus*, which charges 80 cents, plus 5%. The 5% mostly ends up covering the credit card processing fee that Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express charge to take their cards. Ludus in turn provides us with 24/7 customer support, and a reliable program for ticketing, as well as free ticketing for free events, which allows us to ensure we aren't over capacity for those events.
We also include a 50 cent "seat maintenance fee", which is specifically set aside to help with maintenance of the seats in our spaces. For many of our performances, this is the only source of money from a show to the facility to help cover the wear and tear of the event, as show revenue goes to the presenting organization.
We appreciate your understanding.
*Events hosted by other groups may have different ticketing companies, different fees, and different policies.
