The community of Sauk Prairie is actually made up of the villages of Sauk City, and Prairie du Sac.  These two villages border each other with Oak Street, which is the road to the south of the River Arts Center.  While Sauk Prairie is essentially one community, you'll find two post offices, two libraries, two fire departments, and street names will change across Oak Street.  We are served by a single police department, and the Sauk Prairie School District, which also serves the village of Merrimac, and many townships in the area.

While we are a small community, Sauk Prairie has a number of interesting points of interest and historical facts.  We are home to the original Culver's restaurant, the largest winery in Wisconsin (Wollersheim), the fist volunteer fire department in Wisconsin, and the largest dam on the Wisconsin River.

Sauk Prairie is home to a good number of bald eagles year round, but in the winter time, this may be the best place in Wisconsin for bald eagle viewing.  The Prairie du Sac dam prevents the Wisconsin River from freezing over the winter months, which makes Sauk Prairie a popular place for bald eagles to spend their winter.  It is not uncommon to look out and see 20-30 eagles in one place, most popularly "Eagle Island", which is viewable from the Eagle Overlook in downtown Prairie du Sac.

Sauk City is home to the very first Culver's restaurant, which opened in 1984.  Located on Phillips Boulevard, or US Highway 12,  You'll find that Culver's is even better at the original location.  Culver's and the Culver family have been wonderful supporters of the River Arts Center for its entire history, most notibly Lea Culver, for whom Leola Hall is named for.

Vintage Brewing Company is one of the most popular restaurants in town, located just outside of downtown Sauk City.  With a solid brew-pup menu and locally brewed craft beer (and root beer), Vintage is one of the most popular restaurants in town.

If you're looking for a higher end steakhouse and supper club, Green Acres is the place for you.  Located just across the Wisconsin River on US Highway 12, you won't be disappointed!

C2 Juicery has many healthy options including salads and other meal food.  Plus lots of juice options!  Located in downtown Prairie du Sac

Wollersheim Winery, Distillery, and Bistro is the largest winery in Wisconsin, and located just across the Wisconsin River.  Featuring award winning wines and spirits, and an amazing atmosphere.
